The Good:

I liked a lot of the stuff in the episode. BRL continue to, I think, overstuff things a bit? But this wasn’t as bad as some episodes in that regard.

 

Crowley is starting to realize that he doesn’t really have control over our suburban mountain lion – Amara is okay enough with using him as long as he’s giving her what she wants, but I’m pretty sure she outclasses him majorly when it comes to power levels.

He’s trying to push her into one side of the conflict – to choose evil over good, Hell over Heaven – but she’s inclined to see both sides as irrelevant. It’s all just ‘stuff God made after he locked me up’ to her (except for Dean, probably). Our ‘grunts on the ground’ convo between the lower-level demon and the lower-level angel also really fed into this idea – when it comes to Amara, they’re both just potential meals, I feel. She continues to be my adorable amoral mountain lion trapped in suburbia. *cautiously hugs Amara while wrapped in protective clothing*

Aside from all that, he’s just plain underestimating her, like he underestimated Cas and Kevin and Dean. He gives her kid books and translates things into English, while she’s fine reading an adult book in a different language. He obviously just doesn’t understand her at all.

Except for the bizarre moment where Dean took time out of looking for Cas in order to catcall some poor lady on the street, Dean and Cas were pretty solid this episode. I really liked their ending scene in particular, for reasons that I can’t quite articulate yet (but that people have probably already written metas about, lol). But I also loved the scene in the beginning where Cas falls and Sam and Dean help him sit up and then Sam takes his hand away and kinda hovers it near Cas’s body while Dean just keeps his hand on Cas’s back. And the touching later on, too. It seems like, when Jensen directs Dean/Cas moments, he’s very fond of having Dean cradle Cas’s face.

Poor Rowena trying to make ‘MegaCoven’ happen. I enjoyed her stuff this episode a lot, too. I’m also glad she called Sam out on his lies to Dean’s face. Thank you, Rowena, for clearing the air there. I mean, you had your own reasons, but I enjoyed it anyway. And she may have lost the Codex, but she still has plenty of cards right now.

The Bad:

Bucklemming continue to be obsessed with jamming in their porno moments, not matter how pointless. I mean, wtf?

And they also jam in Dean catcalling a girl while he’s trying to save his friend’s life? It was just such a bizarre moment at such an oddly placed time? idgi???

Sam mentioning Charlie’s name just made me feel a new burst of resentment towards him for using her to save Dean, getting her killed, and then her death basically not even breaking his stride. Ugh. I just feel like he doesn’t deserve to ever say her name. No matter how many heroic things he does, I still always see Charlie’s dead body whenever I look at Sam’s face. I don’t know if he can ever do anything that will make that feeling go away.
