I am in love with recent developments on SG-1. I love that Daniel's asking about the reason that the Orii want people to worship them, that the writers are presuming that the answer is more complex than "because they're the bad guys". But SG-1 has always been good at posing questions. They don't always answer them, because I don't think they like taking sides (or, perhaps, they want people to decide for themselves what their answer is, though that may be giving the SG PTB too much credit).
Regardless, after years of avoiding this issue, I'm very intrigued to see them tackle it and am very curious as to how far they plan to go with it.
BSG, on the other hand, is committing itself to going all the way.
Dune is a book series that I particularly adore. It hinges on the dangerous power found in mixing religion with politics. This is a subject that I have always found fascinating. I find the question even more pertinent considering America's current political situation.
I did have some... pacing issues with the most recent episode of Galactica. Honestly, I think that the Simon revelation was too quick. I think that they could have cut the Anders/Starbuck thing, moved Starbuck getting shot up an episode, and then had the revelation in this episode. But maybe the Anders thing will become more relevent later. I have been impressed so far with the writers on this show and their ability to capture the emotional continuity as well as plot-related stuff.
I continue to adore the human-form Cylons. Boomer just... the actress has been just amazing this year. I find all the characters on Galactica to be very interesting and realistic. I like Kara a lot this year, but I've always been fond of characters who continue to get up no matter how hard they get smacked down (see: Summers, Buffy). Honestly, I'm just enjoying the ride right now.
Now that I actually have higher brain function...

It's always interesting (to me) to see religion and politics from the outside and to see how powerful (and dangerous) they are.
